FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MiLKBabY no more! The all grown up tribal/ambient/space/punk, Barry Bennett, makes it a go on his own with a haunting new album, “Death to Death! And Other Tales of Uneasy Harmony…”

What is a tribal/ambient/space/punk? Bennett would be the one to ask. He was leader of the iconic group, MiLkBabY, through 10 years and 5 albums and whose brand of alien world music made them a fixture of Chicago’s left of center music scene. Bennett also creates scores in the world of Theatre and dance. His music has been heard with groups including; The Goodman, 16th Street Theater, CBDC, Chicago Moving Company, Chicago Dramatists, as well as his own improvisational performance group – The Impending Behavior Orchestra. Through it all, his music has been strange, exciting, fierce, and hypnotizing; hallmarked, as the Chicago Reader put it, with “ Fiendish percussion chops and otherworldly vocalese.”
It is almost as if you stumbled upon a master musician for some unknown tribe whose ritual chants you somehow recognize as your own. Is this the realm of the tribal/ambient/space/punk?

Why a solo album, now? This sends Bennett rolling a bit when asked directly. “ I struggled with that actually, when I first realized I was making an album and not creating random pieces of music.”
Right when he was finishing what would become the Death to Death three-song suite that begins the new album, he called Jon Hain at Uvulittle Records (who released the MiLkBabY catalog) and told Jon he was making a record. Jon was excited to hear what Bennett was cooking up and asked him to send the demos right away. He also asked if this was going to be an Impending Behavior Orchestra record.
“I didn’t know as the time,” says Bennett. “When I realized how vulnerable it made me feel to step out from behind a moniker…away from the insular world of theatre; away from the safety net of a real or imagined band, I knew that’s what I had to do. Where there is vulnerability there usually lurks some truth.”
In this writer’s opinion, stepping out from behind a mask will hopefully make it easier for this unique musician to be found and heard.

“Death to Death! And Other Tales of Uneasy Harmony…” is about putting away those ideals that hold you back. It is about rebirth and accepting the inevitable. It is a river that ends at the beginning. It is hand made. It is a love letter to the album form. It seems to want to be magic. Make this record part of your aural life and decide for yourself.

“Death to Death! And Other Tales of Uneasy Harmony…” will be released: 11/16/2010 on UVULITTLE RECORDS.
